As pioneers in cold plasma science, our team of scientists, engineers, and experts have played a key role in driving research and commercial development. Our groundbreaking work has brought cold plasma technology to companies, public institutions and even private households worldwide.

So, what exactly is cold plasma? Technically known as Cold Atmospheric Plasma, or CAP, it is a partially ionized gas scientifically proven to effectively inactivate a wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores.

Terraplasma is a global leader in the research and development of cold plasma solutions. terraplasma was founded in 2011 as a spin-off of the Max Planck Institute to commercialize research results on cold plasma from over three decades. Over the past decade, we have developed and launched five products in the areas of skin care and wound treatment, disinfection and sterilization, and odor and allergen management.

With extensive experience from design and prototyping to commercial device – and together with partners have sold more than 35,000 products containing our patented cold plasma technology.

How is cold plasma generated? Unlike hot plasma – such as the sun or northern lights, cold plasma operates at normal room temperatureCold plasma is created when just enough energy is added to ambient air so that only a few particles are ionized. This cold plasma particle mixture – a “plasma cocktail” – is highly effective against microorganisms, among other things, and can therefore be used in water treatment, the food industry, but also in medicine and cosmetics.

The plasma care from terraplasma medical GmbH is the first truly mobile medical device for wound treatment using cold plasma. As an approved Class IIa medical device, it can be used by outpatient wound specialists, but also in clinical and office settings.
